Walking to help with your weight loss can be quite effective. In fact, current research shows that walking can be just as beneficial as working out at the gym regularly. One study at the University of Pennsylvania followed overweight people on a weight-loss program. The participants also followed one of the three exercise programs. One group exercised 40-50 minutes, four days a week in a gym. Another group did the same amount of exercise at home. The third group walked with a pedometer, and aimed to increase their walking by 5,000 steps a day.
What researchers found is that all three groups experienced similar weight loss results at 20 weeks, 40 weeks, and even after 6 months. So don’t think you have to join a gym so that you can exercise to shed extra pounds. Just start walking more, and you can experience better weight loss.
